Reflections

Programme of lectures and debates

Reflections is a programme of lectures and debates at and around Art Rotterdam. West The Hague, Witte de With Centre for Contemporary Art and the magazine for contemporary art Metropolis M each organize a day in which they will grasp specific current topics in contemporary art.

Thursday 11 February
Encounters: Art & Context
In an era in which thinking from traditional disciplines –like art, dance and architecture – functions less and less, the definition of art seems to be more of a methodology than an appearance. In the sequence ‘public encounters’ with –each time-  two international experts, this cultural phenomenon is clarified and discussed with the public.

Friday 12 February
Artists’ ideals and the ideal curator
Can curators carry out their practice by themselves? Where and how does the voice of the public, the critic, the institution, or more over, the artist fit within curatorial reflection? Defne Ayas (director Witte de With) and Jens Hoffmann (author, curator and currently Deputy director of the Jewish Museum in New York) will lead a discussion about this matter in which several curators and artists participate.

The Technological Future and Art
