The art fair Art Rotterdam that took place from 11 - 14 February in the Van Nellefabriek was very successful. 26.500 art lovers and – professionals visited the fair where 130 international galleries and artists’ initiatives presented themselves, an absolute record number of visitors. “A continuously growing group of people is interested in contemporary art and also purchases,” says fair director Fons Hof. “This edition we spend a lot of effort in making background information available to the visitors, among others by means of an introductory film with art critic Hans den Hartog Jager that all visitors can watch before their fair visit.”
The gallery owners were also very content with the fair. The director of Copperfield, London, who had a booth in the New Art Section: “It’s the higest sales figure I’ve done in the last eight international fairs.” On the opening night GRIMM Gallery sold the three meter wide wall sculpture ‘August 9, 1945 (Hamburg) by Matthew Day Jackson for 250.000 dollar to a Dutch collector. Galerie Stigter Van Doesburg quickly sold all works in their booth. Galerie Fons Welters sold the four meter high sculpture ‘Hard Copy [Tribal Spirit 2016]’ by David Jablonowski, asking price € 14.500,-, to a Dutch corporate collection. And the three meter wide glass installation ‘Muur/ Wall’ by Maria Roosen, asking price € 27.000,-, to a Dutch collector. “It’s been such fun being part of this fair”, says Martijn Dijkstra from Upstream Gallery.

Art Rotterdam Week
Art Rotterdam is part of the Art Rotterdam Week. A week with an extensive offer of art and design fairs, art related events, parties and exhibitions. From 10 -14 February Rotterdam was the heart of festivities concerning culture and contemporary art. Packed oldtimer shuttle buses connected the Van Nellefabriek with the Wilhelminapier, the Museum Quarter and Atelier Van Lieshout.
