Videoart at Art Rotterdam Projections

The third edition of Art Rotterdam Projections, the videosection of Art Rotterdam, took in 2015 again take place as an entirely integrated part of the art fair in the Van Nellefabriek. For this occasion 900 m2 of the fair was totally darkened to present a worldwide unique, open and interactive setting. On large projection screens 12 international galleries presented a video or film of upcoming and more renowned artists.

At Projections the Andaz Art Donation-jury selected, just like during the past two editions, a videowork. The video was bought by the hotel Andaz Amsterdam and donated in joint ownership to the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam and De Hallen Haarlem.
The winning work was in 2015: ‘The Sophisticated Neanderthal Interview’ (2013-14) by Nathanial Mellors (Galerie Stigter van Doesburg).
The jury noted: This film is, for now, an absolute highlight in the oeuvre of this complete idiosyncratic artist: absurdist, hilarious, extremely well acted and full of subtle meta-perspectives on the current state of affairs in contemporary art.”

The jury in 2015 consisted of: Xander Karskens (De Hallen Haarlem), Nick Pritzker (Hyatt) and jury chairman Tom Morton (writer, independent curator, Contributing Editor Frieze, London).
