Curator en kunsthistoricus Zippora Elders interviewt kunstenaar Sarah van Sonsbeeck over haar praktijk en recente werk, gepresenteerd bij Annet Gelink Gallery op Art Rotterdam. Van Sonsbeeck onderzoekt hoe monumenten opnieuw kunnen worden verbeeld — vloeibaar, tijdelijk en een weerspiegeling van meerdere stemmen. Deze Q&A verdiept haar interesse in kunst als een mogelijk instrument voor hercontextualisatie in de hedendaagse samenleving en plaatst haar recente project binnen haar bredere onderzoek naar stilte als onderwerp.

Heske ten Cate, director of NEST The Hague and curator, and Laurie Cluitmans, art critic and curator at Centraal Museum Utrecht, will give a lecture in connection with the exhibition Good Mom/Bad Mom – Unraveling the Mother Myth, opening at Centraal Museum Utrecht on March 29. This large-scale group exhibition focuses on the many forms of motherhood, from ancient myths about ‘good mothers’ to contemporary, often personal reflections by new generations of artists.

Curator Fatoş Üstek en sociaal architect Rubiah Balsem bundelen hun krachten en onderzoeken nieuwe manieren om het culturele landschap vorm te geven. Om de toekomst van de kunstwereld te navigeren, pleiten ze voor meer nieuwsgierigheid, veerkracht en interdisciplinaire samenwerking. Samen met onder meer internationaal beeldend kunstenaar Narges Mohammadi duiken ze verder in dit thema.
Tijdens dit Engelstalige evenement wordt het publiek uitgenodigd om actief deel te nemen aan het gesprek, inzichten te delen en bij te dragen aan een gezamenlijke visie op culturele verandering.

Especially for students and starting artists, the Mondriaan Fund is organising the Get a Grant event, an information meeting at Art Rotterdam about the grant opportunities for starting visual artists. The event will take place on Friday 28 March from 17.00 hours – 18.00 hours. During the Get a Grant event, an employee of the fund will tell you about the Artist Start grant and an artist will share their experiences in submitting an application. Of course, there will also be room for questions from the audience.

De rol van verzamelaars is de afgelopen jaren aanzienlijk veranderd. Naast het zijn van passieve deelnemers op de kunstmarkt, dragen verzamelaars nu actief bij aan het vormgeven van de kunstwereld, vooral als het gaat om het ondersteunen van opkomend talent. Deze paneldiscussie brengt belangrijke figuren samen die niet alleen hun eigen collecties cureren, maar ook diep betrokken zijn bij initiatieven die de carrières van jonge, opkomende kunstenaars bevorderen. Ze spelen een cruciale rol in het doorbreken van barrières, het waarborgen van diversiteit en het bieden van nieuwe kansen voor kunstenaars om te gedijen in een steeds competitievere en sneller veranderende kunstwereld.

Curator and art historian Zippora Elders interviews artist Sarah van Sonsbeeck on her practice and recent work, presented at the Annet Gelink Gallery booth at Art Rotterdam. Here, the artist explores how monuments might be reimagined – fluid, temporary, and reflective of multiple voices. This Q&A deepens Van Sonsbeeck’s interest in art as a possible tool for recontextualization in today’s society, looking at her recent project in relation to the artist’s longer research on the topic of silence.

Line Finderup will lead an artist talk on how gaming can serve as a tool to shift agency and perspective, offering new ways to engage with the viewer. She will present her project ULTIMATE MINGLE, featured at this year’s Art Rotterdam. The project showcases a video game where players embody art world identities, battling in a Tekken-style fight, exploring the intersection of gaming and artistic expression. By inviting the audience to take on different roles, she blurs the boundaries between observer and player, questioning who controls the narrative and how perspectives are constructed.

Editor Pieter Vermeulen enter into conversation with artist Elen Braga about her artistic practice and the new monograph Elen Braga; a comprehensive overview of fifteen years of work by Belgian-Brazilian artist Elen Braga. With texts by the artist herself and contributions from critics and curators such as Raphael Fonseca, Laila Melchior, Paulo Miyada, Ilse Roosens and Joanna Zielińska, the book highlights her multidisciplinary practice – from performance and textiles to installation, sculpture, video and art in public space.
